Presentation Descriptions

“Through the Church the Song Goes On”
Your favorite hymns form the basis of this presentation! Participants will have the opportunity to submit your favorite hymn in advance. These hymns will be woven into a survey of hymnody throughout the Church’s history. We’ll take a look at what was going on in the Church and in the world and how these hymns benefit the saints and teach the faith, pausing to sing your favorite hymns along the way.

“Teaching the Faith through Art and Song”
The Church has always used visual art and music to help teach the faith to young and old alike. The heart of this presentation is a deep dive into Luther’s beloved hymn, “Dear Christians, One and All, Rejoice” (LSB 556). We will examine the hymn through listening, singing, and artwork by Lutheran artist Ed Riojas, and discover how the arts can help imprint Scripture on our hearts. You’ll also go home with a list of suggested resources for hymnody and art to use in your personal and family devotions.

Presenter: Kantor Jacquelyn Magnuson
